Virgin Buyer’s Beware! Advice for the Newbie

I have not always been a bag lover. I always felt that huge, bulky bags were unnecessary, and they took up way too much space. Once I became a mom all that changed. I realized I needed a huge, bulky bag just to get through my daily routine. I opted out of wearing the traditional baby bag. They didn’t have much of a fashion trend to me. So, I purchased a huge BCBG bag that took care of all of my needs. Its purpose was a purse/diaper bag. Of course, since then Coach has developed a brilliant bag for new mothers. That was when I discovered I could not live without my designer bag…a huge, bulky bag was now a necessity. I didn’t have much direction back then (4 years ago) when it came to choosing a designer bag. So I’d like to offer just a few words of advice for the Virgin Buyer:

Okay, you’re a newbie to the game, you have never purchased a designer handbag before, and you may be wondering what you should look for when you’re deciding on your first purchase. Well, I always encourage first time buyers to look for something “classic” or “timeless”. You can never go wrong with a classic bag. You know, those bags that women wore during what I call “the black and white era”. These bags will never get “old”. The 40s, 50s, 60s, and even 70s have come back with trends that are definitely high fashion.

Also, don’t be afraid to try out different colors, textures, and designs. For instance, don’t buy a purse just because it matches 10 things in your closet. The rule that says your bag has to match your outfit can now officially be broken. So, don’t be afraid to wear your large red patent-leather bag when you have on brown or beige…just work it. Different is in. Remember, it’s your style so be proud of it.

Last, but not least, have fun with your new designer bag. It’s not every day that you get to plunk down major money on a coveted designer item, so enjoy.

Welcome to the club!

Although I enjoyed the article, the bag is not a classic. I think it’s wonderful to know that my patent leather bag can be worn with anything in my closet.

where is the advice about how to be more aware of crap designs in purses or fakes. I see no good advice other than the same old “buy classic styles” line.
