Fake or Fendi: Deciphering the Difference With Designer Handbags
Can you tell the difference between a real designer handbag or a fake one? At one time, I too was unable to tell the difference because the fake-off manufacturers are clever in their design, even down to the minute details. I have been fooled a couple of times myself.
ABC ran a news special that talks about how you can spot a fake designer bag. Here is an excerpt:
It’s even more difficult to tell what’s real when shopping online, and buyers are being fooled. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and federal government agencies estimate that counterfeiting deprives the U.S. economy of $200 billion to $250 billion annually.
Although I thought I was pretty adept at it, maybe I was wrong. I need to take a closer look at the bags in my closet. Here are some things you can do to tell if your handbag is an original or an imposter:
1.) The price. If your Prada bag is being listed for $200 instead of $2000, it’s an offender. The price of top designer handbags cost a lot because of the quality of materials that go into making the bag.
2.) The feel. Although the fakes come pretty close to feeling like spun butter, there are still tell-tell signs on the bag that will give it away. Are there threads hanging from the posts? Are the posts on the bag real or “polished-over?”. Look closely at the bag before you purchase it to see if there is anything that would give it away.
3) The smell. MMMmmm. Nothing like the fresh smell of suede and leather. Nope, nothing like it and nothing can replace it.
If you don’t mind having a knock-off, then don’t worry about it. But there are some of us who only want the real deal. Not fake.
