Are You A Label-er?
Designer names like Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Oscar de la Renta, Yves St Laurent and the like are sufficient enough to make people open up their wallets and part with their hard-earned cash. Sometimes, all a person needs is a designer name to make them feel as if they’re really getting quality. But, is the name all that’s needed to ensure quality? What about style? Or fashion? Or current trends? Is that all that’s important - - a name?
Label-ers are people who buy an item, no matter what it looks like and how it looks on them, solely because of the tag sewn into the material. I’ve fallen prey to it many times myself just because it was an “Anne Klein”, or a “Gap” original. Then, months later looking back in my closet, wonder why in the world did I ever buy this ghastly thing, only to discover that it was because it was a “Yves St. Laurent” one-of-a-kind and I didn’t think I’d ever see anyone else with one like it. And, I didn’t.
Just because something has a designer label in it doesn’t always mean it’s “da bomb” or even that it would look good on you. Trust me, I understand the stigma connected to high quality goods, but I think buying an item just because it has a designer label sewn in may be doing you a disservice. I don’t know how many times I’ve ended up with a (huh?) item in my closet just because it was an ==original==. Don’t do it. Check it out first. Style before loyalty I say.
